The last trailer for **Pacific Rim might have been advertised as the “final” look at the film before it stomps into our cinemas, but it turns out that wasn’t quite true. So here comes one more peek, which throttles back on the giant robot vs massive monster mash-ups and instead introduces us to the pilots behind the towering Jaeger machines. But this still finds time for talk of canceling apocalypses, as required by law for all promos for the movie.

Pacific Rim** might feature lots of huge clashes between giant creatures, but it’s also a human story of loss, fear, connection and spirit. We meet washed up pilot Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) who bought into the idea that Jaeger pilots were rock stars and warriors… At least, until a tragic fight with a particularly tough Kaiju beast.

Now working construction, he’s tracked down by Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who has seen how badly things are going for humanity and knows that Raleigh might be one of the few people who can help. He’ll have to connect with an untested rookie, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) and work alongside people who think he ran out on the programme.

With Guillermo del Toro marshalling the madness and keeping a close eye on the actors, Pacific Rim also features Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins Jr, Burn Gorman and traditional del Toro mascot Ron Perlman. The film roars onto screens on July 12.
