Marvel Premieres Item 47

You are Marvel. You have a Comic-Con filled to bursting with fans of The Avengers. What would you do? Why, you’d premiere the latest short film, Item 47, of course!

That’s just what Kevin Feige, co-president Louis D’Esposito and the rest of the team did Friday night at the convention. Fans were invited via an Avengers iPad app to go on a scavenger hunt for clues leading them to a screening of the movie at San Diego’s Horton Plaza. And Empire was there to see it.

Item 47 follows on from the end of Avengers Assemble, with Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford as a cash-strapped couple who find one of the Chitauri guns left behind after the big New York battle.

The pair, named Benny and Claire, decides that the weapon might just be the answer to all their financial problems. But it’s the beginning of more trouble for them, as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sitwell (played by Thor / Avengers veteran Maximiliano Hernández) is on their case.

What follows is an enjoyable, more ambitious addition to the Marvel shorts canon, with an explosive couple of moments and little nods to elements from the **Avengers **continuity.

The short will appear on the Avengers Assemble Blu-Ray, due out on September 17.
