Good news! The cast of** The World's End** – Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's conclusion to their Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy – just got even better, with the additions of Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan.
The duo will presumably join Pegg, Nick Frost and Paddy Considine as five childhood friends who reunite, 20 years after taking on the mother of all pub crawls, to attempt it again. Only this time, it coincides with an event that may just be the apocalypse - can the quintet make it to The World's End pub before the world ends?
Considine had been announced a couple of weeks ago, and with filming already underway, it was only a matter of time before the group of friends was rounded out. And the choices of Freeman and Marsan are very reassuring – both are brilliant actors with fine comic chops. And there's history there, too – Freeman was (briefly) in** Shaun Of The Dead**, of course, while Marsan and Considine last worked together on Tyrannosaur. Suffice it to say, this will be very different.
We spoke to Pike recently, and while she was relatively tight-lipped about the film, she did confirm that she's playing the younger sister of one of the characters. Our money's on Pegg's Gary King, the film's protagonist, who brings the group back together again. One other question remains: with Nick Frost playing Andy Knight, will the other three members of the group also be named after chess pieces?
Freeman and Marsan weren't the only people confirmed to participate in The World's End today. Bill Pope – Wright's DP on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – will pull the same duty on this, while many of Wright's trusted crew will also return.
It's safe to say that expectations are insanely high for** The World's End**. Fingers crossed that Wright and Pegg, and their expanding repertory company, can pull it off.
The World's End is scheduled for release on August 14, 2013.
