While there’s still a bit question mark hanging over the potential for a cinematic return of Jason Bourne, another of author Robert Ludlum’s tale is set to be plundered by Universal.

Variety reports that The Sigma Protocol has been plonked on to the front burner with Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway brought on board to pen the screenplay.

Published in 2001, The Sigma Protocol is the last novel Ludlum wrote befroe his death and it tells the suitably thrillery tale of a young investment banker who discovers that a secret organization has long been controlling the global economy. When our hero tries to uncover the conspiracy, he’s targeted for death and all manner of running and leaping and punching kicks off.
