AMC is, across the pond at least, a channel that brings us such treats as The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. But while most of its dramas are either original or adapted from non-film/TV source material, it has occasionally looked to other countries’ output for inspiration, starting with The Killing, adapted from Denmark’s Forbrydelsen. Now it’s the turn of the UK, with AMC working up a new take on miniseries Low Winter Sun. Check out the teaser.

The US version of Sun, which will start with a 10-episode first season on the channel, imports the original version’s star, one Mr Mark Strong, and the basic plot of a cop mixed up in the vengeful murder of one of his colleagues. The big change is that it's set in Detroit and not Scotland this time. Along for the ride is fellow UK thesp Lennie James, plus Erika Alexander, Breaking Bad’s David Costabile and Michael McGrady.

The original aired as a two-parter on Channel 4 back in 2006 (if you need your memory jogged, the trailer can be found online here) and it’ll be interesting to see whether series boss Chris Mundy (who worked on Criminal Minds and its spin-off, Suspect Behaviour) can stretch it across the initial episode order and possibly into the future if it’s a hit. If we’re honest, however, the chance to see Strong in action again is reason enough to be cheerful. Check out our latest chat with the man (plus his Welcome To The Punch director Eran Creevy) on the podcast.
