The Times BFI London Film Festival celebrates its 50th birthday this year and the party is set to begin on October 18 with the European premiere of Kevin Macdonald’s The Last King Of Scotland.

Based on the award-winning novel by Giles Foden, the film stars Forest Whitaker as the tyrannical Ugandan President Idi Amin, alongside James McAvoy, Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington and Simon McBurney.

“It would be an honour to be chosen any year to open The Times BFI London Film Festival” said the movie’s director. “It’s particularly great to be kicking off the 50th edition. I'm so pleased to be having the European premiere of The Last King Of Scotland in my home city and at a Festival where I myself have discovered so many wonderful movies over the years”.

The full programme for The Times BFI 50th London Film Festival will be announced on Thursday September 14. The festival runs from 18 October – 2 November.

Empire will be on the gorund bringing you all the coverage come festival time but, in the meantime, you can get more in formation over at [www.lff.org.uk]{href='http://www.bfi.org.uk/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'}.
