The stars of **Foxcatcher **hit the red carpet at the London Film Festival on Thursday night for the UK premiere of the critically acclaimed true-life story.

Vocal fans made their presence felt as director Bennett Miller, previously Oscar-nominated for **Capote **and Moneyball, was joined on the red carpet by the stars of the film, including Steve Carell, Sienna Miller and Vanessa Redgrave.

**Foxcatcher **follows wrestling brothers Mark (Channing Tatum) and Dave (Mark Ruffalo) Schultz as the former falls under the spell of wealthy businessman John du Pont (Steve Carell). As the relationship between the trio becomes more complex, events take a dark turn.

At the centre of the film is Steve Carell in his most successful dramatic role to date, which is a huge change of gear from his usual work in broad comedies.

“It was very challenging to say the least,” said Carell. “Working with Bennett and the other actors was an honour. Mark Ruffalo is such a fine actor and Channing Tatum, I think, is transformative in it. I just feel fortunate to have been asked to be in it and thankful that Bennett put the trust in me.”

There is enough buzz surrounding Carell’s performance that some are tipping him for a Best Supporting Actor nomination at next year’s Academy Awards.

**Foxcatcher **will be released nationwide in the United Kingdom on January 9 2015.
