For Unbroken, her latest stint behind the camera, Angelina Jolie has picked an emotional and occasionally harrowing true story: that of American icon Louis Zamperini. The latest trailer for the biopic, which is already drawing awards talk, is now online.
‘71’s Jack O’Connell is the star of the film as the younger Zamperini brother, a ne'er-do-well-turned-LA high-school athlete who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. During World War II, his Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific, leaving him without food and water for 28 days, enduring shark attacks, starvation and strafing by enemy planes. He eventually ended up on a Japanese island behind enemy lines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years and tortured by his captors.
Working from a script that has seen contributions from William Nicholson, Richard LaGravenese and the Coen brothers, Jolie has rounded up a cast that also includes Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, Jai Courtney, Alex Russell and C.J. Valleroy. Unbroken will be out in the US on December 25 and the UK on December 26.
