We’re just days away from the release of alien invasion romance The Host, so obviously the team behind it want to keep it foremost in our brains (which seems fitting for a film about extra-terrestrials taking over human minds). Check it out below.
The Host, adapted by Gattaca’s Andrew Niccol from Stephenie Meyer’s alien invasion novel, finds the Earth’s population all but assimilated by an alien species that infest our cerebella and wipes our personalities so they can control us and rule the planet. They say they’re doing it for our own good, but we’re not so sure... And who can blame us?
Almost all of humanity is now under the control of this secretive race known as “souls” and they’re working to track down the remaining pockets of resistance.
One of the unconverted humans is the strong-willed Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), who would rather die than let herself get brain-snatched. But when she’s badly injured fleeing a squad of the alien-infested humans led by The Seeker (Diane Kruger), Stryder is captured and a powerful member of the invading creatures called Wanderer is introduced to her brain, in the hopes that her memories will lead the Seeker’s forces to her rebel friends.
Yet something unexpected happens: Melanie’s personality fights back and she flees to find the resistance. Blending the sort of love story normally found in a Nicholas Sparks novel with Invasion Of The Body Snatchers seems like a risky move, but we’ll see how it plays out with audiences, particularly as this comes from the mind of Twilight’s Meyer and features a built-in following... The film arrives on March 29.
