You might have seen the first long trailer for Star Wars Rebels, the new animated series set as canon within that galaxy far, far away. Here comes an even longer look at the series, which features Jason Isaacs’ vocal tones behind big bad The Inquisitor.
The series is a gang-on-the-run adventure, with a mismatched band trying to elude the Galactic Empire's forces. Set five years before Star Wars: A New Hope, this sees Ezra Bridger, a young thief and con artist, team up with "cowboy Jedi" Kanan Jarrus, daredevil pilot Hera Syndulla, Mandalorian weapons expert and graffiti artist Sabine, alien Zeb Orrelios who's simply described as a "big guy with a heart" and grumpy astromech droid Chopper.
There’s plenty of action on display here, with a proper introduction to Ezra and several links to the larger** Star Wars **universe, including a holographic message from Obi-Wan Kenobi and even a reference to “a new hope” arising. Yes, it’s a little awkward but the promo also promises a lot of light-hearted hijinks for the team with just enough real peril mixed in.
Star Wars Rebels will be on the air in the autumn and will naturally have a San Diego Comic-Con screening on July 24 at the Gaslamp Reading Cinemas, with a panel set for the same day at 6pm in Room 6BCF. For more on the series, check out our interview with executive producer Dave Filoni.
