With Hugh Jackman’s titular character starring in two new posters for **The Wolverine** already **this week, it seems only fair that Guillermo del Toro and his Pacific Rim team get to answer back with one of their own. So it is that Warner Bros. has put out a new picture of one of the giant, Kaiju-fighting robot Jaeger craft from the movie. Take a bow, Coyote Tango.
Well, we asked it to take a bow, but this Japanese techno terror seems more pre-occupied with battle, and hasn’t even noticed that it’s demolishing a bridge with all the ease of a toddler taking down a sand castle.
The Tango is just one of the giant Jaegers built by humanity in answer to devastating attacks from the creatures known as Kaiju, who swarm from a portal lurking deep beneath the ocean leading to another dimension.
When we come into the story, even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenceless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam’s Raleigh Becket) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi’s Mako Mori), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
We’d be more even excited about this one, but that could prove dangerous. Del Toro directs from a script he worked on with Travis Beacham and Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce, and the film also features Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr. Pacific Rim lands on July 12 and the latest trailer is below for your staring entertainment.
