If you read our exclusive on-set report from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, or our look at some footage from the film, you’ll know we were impressed with the jumps in technology used for Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the other simian characters. They’re fully on show in the new trailer for the film, which has arrived on the web.
A decade on from the first reboot, Dawn finds Caesar and his pawed cohorts holed up in the Ape Village, distant from human survivors of the viral plague. Now they are trying to establish a new community for themselves. The apes continue to evolve and grow, with a rudimentary language – check out that written meta reference to the familiar series maxim that Ape Shall Not Kill Ape early on – and new skills.
But then they encounter a group of humans, including Jason Clarke’s Malcolm and Keri Russell’s Ellie, and the touch paper is lit for a potential conflict. Tensions aren’t helped by Gary Oldman’s Dreyfuss, a staunch advocate for human survival who is none too pleased about peace overtures to the simians. Tempers flare on both sides as Caesar attempts to keep the peace, still connected to the human race thanks to the kindness he was shown when he was young.
Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves steps up to direct this one, and Judy Greer, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Kevin Rankin and Terry Notary are all part of the cast. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes will be out on July 17.
