When Empire last spoke to Lars von Trier he was pottering around his garden tending to his lettuces and new potatoes. Since then he's found time to destroy the entire planet in his new movie, Melancholia, a "psychological drama-cum-disaster-movie". That's multi-tasking. It has a new trailer online for your perusal below.
The Danish auteur has turned all Michael Bay, unleashing a planet-shaped orb (the titular 'Melancholia') at the Earth as a cast of troubled souls clash at a family wedding. If, like us, you've only just recovered from Antichrist, be warned: von Trier is promising "no more happy endings". Gulp. Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, and a pair of Skarsgårds, Alexander and Stellan, also appear.
So sci-fi fans, where will your hard-earned cash be going this July 1? Will it be Lars von Trier's planet-monstering movie or Michael Bay's arthouse flick Transformers: Dark Of The Moon? Answers below.
