After the justifiably toxic critical mauling handed out to Sex and the City 2, there is a real chance the world may not get a second sequel. But if you were missing Sarah Jessica Parker starring in a film where she struggles to juggle the various aspects of her life, help may just be at hand with I Don’t Know How She Does It, which has just found time to release its first trailer, available to view below.
Adapted from Allison Pearson’s novel by Devil Wears Prada/Morning Glory writer Aline Brosh McKenna, the film shares some themes with her other work in that it finds Parker as Kate Reddy in New York, but this time she's a busy mother of two.
While she’s a financial whizz, she worries that she simply doesn’t have the time she needs to devote to her hubby (Greg Kinnear) and their two children. Plus there’s the added pressure of a new assignment in the office and working alongside Pierce Brosnan’s executive. Cue a perfect storm of motherly angst and time crunches. If you like, you can think it as Sex and the City: The Motherhood Years.
The issues do seem awfully familiar to anyone who has watched this genre before, but Pearson’s novel has a following and McKenna is a proven touch at this type of gig. Take a look at the trailer and see what you think.
Directed by Douglas McGrath and also featuring Olivia Munn, Seth Meyers, Kelsey Grammer and Christina Hendricks, I Don’t Know How She Does It is out on September 16.
