Columbus Day is an American holiday commemorating the famous explorer’s arrival in the New World back in 1492. Chris Columbus is a director whose day, it could be argued, was most exemplified by the first two Harry Potter films and Macaulay Culkin hit, Home Alone. Neither of these, however, has anything to do with the Kevin Spacey-produced Columbus Day, which has just added Val Kilmer, Marg Helgenberger and Wilmer Valderrama to its roster.
The film (which, let us repeat, involves neither the oppression of an indigenous culture nor Mrs Doubtfire) will star Kilmer as a career thief whose undertakes the biggest heist of his life, only for it to go tits up in a spectacular fashion. For reasons unspecified, Val, along with partner in crime Valderrama, has only one morning to extricate himself from the situation while simultaneously trying to patch up his relationship with his ex-wife (Helgenberger).
At no point does he then go on to colonise America or direct Bicentennial Man.
