Oh, hitmen in the movies, when will you stop getting in trouble? Well, probably never, because seeing an assassin shopping for the best deal on wine in Tesco probably wouldn’t be all that exciting. Case in point: Keanu Reeves’ wronged killer in John Wick. The first trailer is online via IGN.
Blending a violent killer thriller with vague elements of absurdist laughs would seem to be tricky proposition, but it's one that director Chad Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad are willing to try.
Reeves is the titular hard nut, who has given up bullet slinging for a quiet life. Until, that is, he runs afoul of some gangsters who take a shine to his car. Rebuffed, they track him down and take everything, even killing his beloved dog. Enraged, Wick picks up the tools of his trade once more and soon no one is safe…
Surrounded by a none-more-eclectic cast including Adrianne Palicki, Willem Dafoe, Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, Jason Isaacs, Alfie Allen, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo and Michael Nyqvist, Reeves looks to be having a blast in this one, in more ways than one. Let’s hope that translates to the film.
**John Wick **heads to US screens on October 24, but there’s no word on a UK release yet.
