Kathy Bates has signed on to star alongside Sandra Bullock in John Lee Hancock’s US football comedy-drama, The Blind Side.

Bullock, who signed on last month, will play the matriarch of a middle-class US family who take in a homeless teen, who then turns out to be a prodigiously gifted left tackle (we’ve no idea what that is, by the way; you might as well try to explain silly point to an American). Bates will play a no-nonsense tutor hired by Bullock to knock the teen into shape.

The kicker, of course, is that this is based on a true story. The teen in question was Michael Oher, a hot college football prospect who is predicted to be one of the first players selected in this year’s NFL draft.

Hancock, who has experience in this genre with his breakout hit, The Rookie, will write and direct, adapting the script from Michael Lewis’ 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution Of The Game. We’re sure that more casting news, not least the skinny on who’ll play Oher, will soon follow.
