Kate Hudson Joins Nine

Film fans, prepare yourself for the fact that the trailer for Nine will probably be longer than the actual film. The time it takes to say "Academy Award winner..." or "Academy Award nominee..." before most of the cast and crew names should mean the first teaser comes in at about the three hour mark. And now it's going to get a little longer.

Despite reports on the 'net last week that Jennifer Hudson would be joining the cast of Rob Marshall's adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical, it's actually Kate Hudson who's the new girl.

Academy Award-nominee, for Almost Famous, Hudson will play Stephanie, a fashion reporter who works for Vogue in Italy. A new song has been written for the character.

Nine is a loose adaptation of Fellini's 8½ and tells the story of film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day Lewis) in the midst of a midlife crisis and driven to distraction by the women in his life. Those women will be played by Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren and Penelope Cruz.

As star power goes, this is like The Godfather Part II with better footwork.
