La Haine (and, ahem, Gothika) director Mathieu Kassovitz is a busy man at the moment. After putting his new genetic Jesus sci-fi tale Babylon A.D. to bed, he’s moving straight on to two new projects according to The Hollywood Reporter.
To start with he’s marching off to war in Rebellion, in which he will both direct and star later this year. With a £12 million budget (that’s about 15 million euros), it’s a true-life tale about French commandos clashing with tribal dwellers in the South Pacific territory of New Caledonia in 1988.
Then he’s off to outer space with the rather more generously budgeted MNP. Set on a space station, MNP (which is the name of both the first space station and Kassovitz's film company, fact fans), will be an international affair with two as-yet-unnamed US stars and eight actors from around the world and will be filmed on special planes that are able to simulate a zero gravity environment. Kassovitz will also work closely with space stations and aeronautical organizations to prepare for the complex project.
Sounding like a refreshingly realistic way of making a sci-fi flick (think sci-fi as film according to the Dogme 95 manifesto), we have to admit we’re interested in the idea.
