Jurassic World Super Bowl Spot Roars In

Continuing the tradition of Super Bowl spots for films largely featuring digested chunks from recent trailers, the Jurassic World ad does at least also deliver some new footage. The star this time – beyond Chris Pratt – is Jurassic Park's (and Jurassic World) big new draw, Indominus Rex, who clearly shares a taste for the hunting and killing of foolish humans, much like its toothy, if less genetically hybridised kin.

There’s more of Pratt’s Owen and his behavioural work with the Raptors – more like a lion tamer or a naturalist working with big cats, he’s got a relationship going with the dangerous creatures, but it’s not like they’re pets. And he’s quick to point out the potential pitfalls of introducing a brand new creature into the park, especially one that boasts the lethal features of several species. Turns out that Bryce Dallas Howard and the other executives have given the thumbs up to a particularly smart dinosaur that likes to kill for sport. Yay progress!

Also present are yet more nods to the original Steven Spielberg film, most notably a moment where Ty Simpkins’ Gray and Nick Robinson’s Zach are caught in one of the futuristic transport bubble cars as the Indominus Rex decides they might make a handy meal...

The new footage looks good and keeps us interested in this new take on a fully working park - we’re just hoping for more animatronic action. With Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Jake Johnson and Judy Greer in the cast, Jurassic World is out on June 12.
