As a palate cleanser between giant, FX-driven movies, Jon Favreau decided to peel things back to his indie roots and make a small-scale comedy drama called Chef last year. The first trailer has now driven online.
Chef, which Favreau wrote, directed and stars in, finds Chef Carl Casper frustrated by his working situation at a posh Los Angeles restaurant. Desperate to break out and be more creative, he butts heads with his boss (Dustin Hoffman), who just wants him to stick to the menu.
Left to figure out his next move, he finds himself in Miami where he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his best pal (John Leguizamo) and his son (Emjay Anthony) to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Carl reignites his passion for the kitchen and zest for life and love.
With able support from the likes of Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Oliver Platt and a few favours from actors in his other films including Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling and one Robert Downey Jr. (who cameos as the man backing Casper’s food truck idea), Chef hits the US on May 9 and will be out here on June 20.
