Gnomes have never really been known for their sexiness (except maybe David The Gnome, that little guy had a certain je ne sais quoi) so the idea of a love story centred around the garden-dwelling creatures isn’t one that we’d thought would set the world alight

However, that's set to change with the news that two of the hottest actors in the world right now are set to give voice to a pair of star-crossed lovers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in negotiations to play the title roles of Gnomeo And Juliet, a CGI-animated Shakespeare adaptation from Miramax and Elton John's Rocket Pictures.

The pun-tastic flick will find the titular characters portrayed as lovers from rival gardens. Blunt replaces Kate Winslet, who was attached to voice Juliet a few years ago, while Elton will provide the soundtrack from his rather packed back catalogue.

Currently firmly on the drawing board, production is expected to be completed by 2010.
