Jackie Earle Haley Is Freddy Krueger

In Little Children, Jackie Earle Haley played a paedophile. In Watchmen, he played a maniac on a never-ending mission of his own devising. Now he's combining the two in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, where he will play Freddy Krueger.

Yes, that's right: they're remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes are (of course) behind it, along with original studio New Line. Music video director Samuel Bayer is directing, from a script by Wesley Strick. Strick wrote Arachnophobia and Wolf, but also the films of Doom and The Saint, so it's anyone's guess as to how this will turn out.

Filming's due to start in Chicago next month, with a bunch of nubile victims teens still to be cast between now and then. Let's hope Haley brings his usual quality performance to this, and that it doesn't harm the good name of the original.
