It might have arrived sneakily and distinctly unofficially over the weekend (which does seem in keeping with the antihero’s style, albeit he doesn't usually go for Russian dubbing), but now the first proper teaser trailer for Tom Cruise and Chris McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher is online.
Apart from a decidedly not-from-the-books obsession with cars (at certain points you might think you’re watching a promo for the next Fast & Furiou****s outing), it definitely seems that Cruise is going all out to prove he’s got what it takes to embody Lee Child’s hardnut former military policeman.
Adapted from the book One Shot, Jack Reacher finds the man with an alarm clock in his head digging into the case of a devastating sniper attack in a US city. The prime suspect is a former military sniper who claims innocence and demands Reacher’s services. The case seems like a slam-dunk, but soon Reacher realises there is much more to the whole affair...
With Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog and David Oyelowo also among the cast, Jack Reacher smashes its way into our cinemas on December 28.
For more on the movie, you’ll want to track down a copy of the latest Empire, which is snarling at other magazines in newsagents now. And if you’re digitally inclined, seek it out on the iPad in both UK and US versions.
