Jack Black is set to make his distinctive mark on the classic Jonathan Swift tale, Gulliver's Travels. Black will play Lemuel Gulliver, an intrepid travel writer on an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle who is washed up on the island of Lilliput, where all the inhabitants are very tiny indeed.
Shark Tale's Rob Letterman is to direct a script by Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller and Shrek writer Joe Stillman, which will form what we can only assume will be a mix of live-action and computer animation - with some singing, dancing and general mayhem added for good measure, naturally.
Gulliver's Travels has been the victim of several film and TV adaptations over the years, the most recent debacle being the 1996 version starring Ted Danson and wife Mary Steenburgen. Letterman's update, though, will bring the story out of the 1700s and into the 21st century, opening the door to all kinds of contemporary tomfoolery.
