The first two Insidious films focused on the beleaguered Lambert family led by Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, and saw spectral forces follow them between homes. Now here comes the third chapter, which spins the clock right back to before they encountered the ghostly terrors and focuses on a new group of characters.
Stephanie Scott is the lead here, playing a young woman who is just home from hospital after breaking both her legs. Her dad (Dermot Mulroney) is trying to help her settle back, and she has an instant connection with neighbour Hector (Ashton Moio), who clearly has a crush on her. But when she thinks he’s playing cute by knocking on her wall, she discovers to her horror that it’s something else...
This first glimpse of the new horror outing – which sees regular writer (and actor) Leigh Whannell taking over the director’s chair from James Wan – is very much on the teasing side of things, with just a hint of the scare tactics lurking within. Sensible, given that the film doesn’t arrive until May 29 next year.
