Whip up a bowl of chilled monkey brains and don your fedora, because the Indiana** Jones** collection is coming to Blu-ray later this year. Yes, the Spielberg / Lucas / Ford series will soon be available in high definition for your viewing pleasure.
The really good news is that sound editing legend Ben Burtt and one Steven Spielberg oversaw the hi-def transfer to ensure that it would be as spiffing as possible. Those of you who are technically minded may be pleased to learn that the original negative was scanned at 4k and then examined frame-by-frame for damage.
Burtt, meanwhile, got busy with the sound mix. "The sound design was similarly preserved using Burtt’s original master mix, which had been archived and unused since 1981. New stereo surrounds were created using the original music tracks and original effects recorded in stereo but used previously only in mono. In addition, the sub bass was redone entirely up to modern specifications and care was taken to improve dialogue and correct small technical flaws."
And Temple Of Doom will be uncut, with the gore excised to secure a PG-rating back in 1984 all put back in.
Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, with all four films (but sadly no Young Indiana Jones), hits on October 8.
