Following a less-than-enticing debut behind host chatter on a US entertainment show, the first full trailer for Immortals has now arrived properly online.
Directed by The Cell’s Tarsem Singh, Immortals is set among Greek myth and legend, with the brutal and ambitious King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) rampaging across Greece in the hopes of securing the lost Bow of Epirus, with which he aims to take down the Gods and cement his entry into the annals of history.
Naturally, the men (and women) upstairs – Zeus (Luke Evans), Poseidon (Kellan Lutz) and the rest – aren’t too pleased with that plan, but they’ve sworn not to interfere in the affairs of man. But that doesn’t stop them subtly pushing forth a hero, Theseus (Henry Cavill), a born leader with a destiny who can rally the forces of good and stand against Hyperion’s bloody tide.
This first real glimpse of the movie is the clearest indication that when you blend ancient myths with sweaty blokes and a director known for his stylish attention to detail, you’re more often than not going to end up with something that’s a little like 300. While the producers – who incidentally also helped bring the world Zack Snyder’s graphic novel adaptation – might like to talk up the differences, this early blend of slow-mo and footage that leans heavily on the bronze filters doesn’t really do them any favours. Still, it could be a lot of fun.
We’ll get a proper chance to judge when Immortals hits our screens on November 11.
