The first full trailer for The Hunger Games is here and there's good news for those who haven't read the books, because this one actually comes close to explaining what's going on. The good news for those who have read the books is that it looks pretty darn close to what you've read, which bodes well for the toughest teen franchise out there and its chances on the big screen.
The story centres on Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), a teen in a post-apocalyptic future who hunts to supplement her mother and sister's meagre rations along with her friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth). When her sister is chosen for the Hunger Games, an annual contest to the death that keeps the outlying (and potentially rebellious) Districts under the control of the technologically advance Capitol, Katniss takes her place - and faces 23 other teenagers in a fight to the last survivor. Like, bummer.
brightcove.createExperiences(); You'll glimpse most of the rest of the featured cast here: Josh Hutcherson is fellow sacrificial lamb Peeta; Elizabeth Banks is District 12's Games coordinator Effie Trinket; Woody Harrelson is former Games champion Haymitch; Lenny Kravitz is fashion designer Cinna; Stanley Tucci is Caesar Flickman, the Capitol's answer to Wogan; Donald Sutherland is the sinister President Snow, and Wes Bentley is Games co-ordinator Seneca Crane.
The Hunger Games is out on March 23 next year. Ignore anyone who tells you it's just like Twilight; this has much more death.
