Hideo Nakata, the Japanese horrormeister behind the original Dark Water and The Ring, retreated back to Japan after experiencing limited success with his sequel to the American remake of The Ring.
But he clearly hasn’t been put off the Hollywood experience entirely, as evidenced by today’s news that he’s just signed on to direct a dark thriller for New Line, called Out.
Mind you, the movie is based on a novel by Japanese author Natsuo Kirino (albeit one published in English), and will be set in Tokyo.
Out revolves around a Tokyo factory worker who murders her abusive husband and enlists the services of three colleagues to help her dispose of the body. Needless to say, it doesn’t all go according to plan, which should give Nakata plenty of scope for shocks and scares.
Joe Forte will write the script, which Nakata will probably direct when he finishes The Last 21 Days Of L, which is currently filming in Japan and Thailand.
