“No it does not stay in Vegas. The only thing that stays in Vegas is your money.”

Ashton Kutcher knows all too well the pitfalls of living it large in Sin City. A fun-loving guy who has had more than his fair share of drunken escapades, he totally connects with his character's predicament – namely getting slaughtered and inadvertantly getting married.

“There have been a lot of times,” said Kutcher when asked of his messiest nights on the lash. “A lot, a lot. I have jumped out of buildings. I caught myself on fire once - that was fun. I fell asleep on a frozen river and woke up a few hours later and my friends wouldn’t come to get me because they thought the ice would break...”

In London’s Leicester Square for the World Premiere of his and Cameron Diaz’s new flick, Ashton was holding court without his leading lady, who was absent due to the tragic death of her father last week.

“She’s doing good, as good as you can do in a very awful situation,” he said. “I’m desperately missing her tonight. Cameron is an absolute one of a kind. She’s an absolute gem and a completely wonderful person.”

As for the rapt response from the crowd, it’s an experience Mr Demi Moore still hasn’t gotten used to yet.

“It’s weird,” he said. “I don’t go to work and have people yell at me. You’re so used to having people yell at you when you’ve done something wrong, so it’s really nice when they’re being nice and saying hello.”

Ashton was joined on the night by Tom Vaughn, the Brit director given the task of co-ordinating the rom-com and dealing with its big-name stars.

“It was actually a great pleasure working with Cameron and Ashton,” said Vaughn. “Going into it, I didn’t know if they were going to be difficult movie stars, throwing temper tantrums every day, but they’re actually really good fun. What you see in the movie, the sense of fun, that’s how it was when we were making the movie.”

His last movie was the rather more sedate James McAvoy-starring romantic comedy Starter For 10, was filming in Las Vegas a strange experience?

“Vegas was gruelling,” he said. “Previously, I’d been there for like two days at a time so to suddenly find yourself there for ten days, well it’s a huge visual overload. We were filming in the middle of the night most of the time and they didn’t close Vegas for us, it was still going on, so we were trying to shoot a movie and stay in control but you don’t really get it so you have to wait for the town to calm down for just a moment. We ended going to bed at all sorts of weird times. “

Co-star Rob Corddry, who plays Ashton’s money-grabbing best mate was also on the red carpet to celebrate the film’s launch – a project which he described as, “Never not fun”.Admittedly, he’s not so well known on this side of the Atlantic but the actor/comedian has landed a hot role in Oliver Stone’s upcoming George W. Bush biopic.

“I’m playing (White House Press Secretary) Ari Fleischer, so that’s something,” he said. “It’ll be interesting, from what I’ve read of the script it’s decidedly anti-Bush. He goes pretty far, pretty far. I have to say that I have no urge to meet Ari Fleischer, I have a lot of tapes of him so I don’t think I have to shake his hand.”

What Happens In Vegas is released on May 9.
