Halle Berry is in talks to star in The Surrogate, the new psycho thriller to be directed by Paul Verhoeven.
Normally, the prospect of Berry teaming up with Verhoeven would be one to excite the dirty mac brigade, but we’ve got a feeling that **The Surrogate **will be a straight-down-the-line commercially viable flick with the emphasis on thrills and spills, rather than rudie nudie bits.
With strong overtones of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Single White Female, **Fatal Attraction **and just about every nutjob thriller of the past twenty or so years, **The Surrogate **revolves around a married couple who hire a surrogate to carry their child for them, only to find out – DUM dum DUMMMMMMM! – that the surrogate is a raving lunatic.
If Berry signs on, she’ll probably play the wife of the heroic couple. But we’d actually like to see her take a (literal) stab at the fruitcake villainess. Let’s see what happens with this one…
The 20th Century Fox movie will be produced by Ralph Winter, who worked with Berry on the X-Men movies, while Rod and Bruce Taylor wrote the script, from a novel by Kathryn Mackel.
