Haden Church Off To Nowhereland

Since being brilliant in Sideways, Thomas Haden Church has had fewer good roles than a bowls player with the DTs. Voice work in Over The Hedge and Charlotte's Web just plain old doesn't count and his Sandman ran wastefully through the fingers of Spider-Man 3, despite being the most potentially interesting character. Does playing support in an Eddie Murphy comedy count as a turnaround, given that the dictionary definition of Eddie Murphy Comedy has changed very dramatically between the mid-'80s and now? We can but hope.

In Nowhereland, Murphy will play a successful finance executive who's career suddenly goes down the toilet. He then finds the answers to his problems in a magical world created by his daughter. Church will play his work rival.

The film is directed by Karey Kirkpatrick, who wrote the screenplay for Chicken Run, so we know he has a good grasp on funny. He also directed Over The Hedge, which was no Chicken Run but still had its moments. There are several parts here that, if sums are all done correctly, could add up to something very funny. Come on, we have to hope, right?
