It’s been teased and talked about endlessly recently, but now Warner Bros. has put the** Green Lantern** trailer on the web for your super heroic consideration.
You’ll likely know the story by now, but just in case… Ryan Reynolds plays hot shot test pilot Hal Jordan, a man with a devil-may-care attitude and a few deep-seated fears. But when he’s chosen by a mysterious alien ring to become part of an aeons-old galactic police task force, he’ll have to face his inner demons and battle some true evil to save the Earth and the balance of power in the universe.
Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong and Tim Robbins are also in the cast for Martin Cambell’s film, which Warners is hoping will end up as an Iron Man-style franchise to rival Marvel’s effort. In fact, the studio is already kicking off work on at least one sequel script just in case.
So how does it measure up? It’s tough to tell from just the trailer, but Reynolds definitely has his charisma working in full force and he comes across as an even cockier Tony Stark-alike version of Jordan. Some of the effects look a little off, but given that the movie itself doesn’t even arrive until the middle of next year, it’s probably too early to read into that.
This one, we suspect, will live and die on how the cast and the final effects make us buy the situation, particularly the whole ring-as-power-for-suit-and-everything-the-hero-does conceit. But the scope looks nicely galactic and we’re also happy to see a decent class of actors try their hand at comic book dialogue.
Watch the trailer and let us know if it makes you want to see the movie, which will be released on June 17.
