If you were expecting to enjoy James McAvoy starring alongside Seth Rogen in the film formerly known as I’m With Cancer, we have some bad news: he’s out. But there’s a silver lining: Joseph Gordon Levitt is replacing him in the lead role of Adam, a man fighting the disease.

In a statement from Summit Entertainment (via Coming Soon), the company has announced that McAvoy has had to drop off the project due to mysterious “unrelated circumstances beyond his control.”

Rogen says: "It's incredibly unfortunate that circumstances outside of everyone's control have taken James away from the project, but, with James's blessing, we were able to have Joseph step in to take on the role of Adam. We all look forward to working with James in the future."

The Wackness’ Jonathan Levine is directing and had this to say: "I feel extremely lucky that our film has found an exceptional actor to step into the role of Adam. I have admired Joseph's work since Brick, and I am so excited to work with him." What, no love for G.I. Joe?

Based on writer Will Reiser’s real-life battle with the big C, the comedy also features Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Houston and Philip Baker Hall, and kicks off shooting next week in Vancouver.
