It looks like 2015 will be the year of the drone drama, which we suppose is hardly a surprise given their topicality. Eye In The Sky** is in production, but Good Kill will beat it into cinemas, with a confirmed release date for this April. Take a look at the trailer.
Ethan Hawke stars in this one as Tommy Egan, a US Air Force pilot-turned-drone jockey who spends his days sending flaming doom upon targets halfway around the world from an airbase in Las Vegas. But even though he initially thought he was continuing to fight the good fight, he becomes increasingly numb from the video game-like side of unmanned aerial bomb runs and begins to question his mission. And, as civilian deaths start to stack up, he turns to booze to soothe his pain, bringing him into conflict with his wife (January Jones) and his commanding officer (Bruce Greenwood). Will he reach a breaking point on a critical mission?
This one comes from Andrew Niccol, who could do with a solid success after a double punch of disappointment over In Time and The Host. Getting back to the sort of ethical territory he covered in Gattaca (with Hawke) and scripted in** The Truman Show** might help, though the reviews from the Venice Film Festival were mixed. Good Kill will fly into UK cinemas on April 10.
