The teaser for next year’s Steve Carell/Anne Hathaway-led comedy caper Get Smart is now online and, like the majority of Carell's on-screen moments, it’s ruddy funny. The original incarnation of this secret agent satire was conceived by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry and became a hit US TV show in the mid-sixties.
The 2008 re-boot will see the hapless Maxwell Smart (Carell) lead the intelligence agency CONTROL in their tireless fight against the evil, terrorist threat of the maniacal organisation KAOS. Hathaway will appear as Smart’s partner Agent 99, while Alan Arkin, Terence Stamp and Dwayne ‘Is he still referred to as The Rock?’ Johnson have also been providing their services since the movie began shooting earlier this year. Director Peter Segal has already stated that satirising today’s modern political climate was foremost in the filmmakers’ minds. Combine that with the sort of joyful silliness on display in this first, brief look and Get Smart could well become one of the comedy highlights of next summer. Click here to decide for yourself.
