In case you hadn’t noticed, the World Cup begins today. And, just to whet your appetite for the following month of football-related bliss, here’s your first look at the upcoming Britflick, Will, which features cameos from Liverpool and England mega-stars, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

The film revolves around eleven year-old schoolkid Will (Perry Eggelton), a huge Liverpool fan who gets the chance to go to the Champions League final in 2005 (when the mighty Reds triumphed against AC Milan on penalties, following the greatest comeback in the competition’s history) when his shady dad, Gareth (Damien Lewis) appears out of nowhere with a pair of tickets.

However, Gareth dies before they can begin the trip to Istanbul, prompting a grief-stricken Will to run away from home and vow to complete the journey. Along the way he teams up with a former Yugoslav footballer, who vows to help Will make it to the Ataturk Stadium in time. Can Will do it? Well, given that the shot above indicates he hooks up with Stevie G and Carra, as those in the know call them, we’re inclined to say ‘yes’.

The film is co-written and directed by Ellen Perry (also pictured), and rest assured, we’re keeping a close eye on this one. Can it capture the spirit and essence of the beautiful game? Can Stevie G measure up to Vinnie Jones in the footballer-turned-actor stakes? Will Will give 110%? We’ll find out at the end of the day. Or, more likely, next year, when it opens.
