In news that's just a little too early to be timely, Garry Marshall has announced that he'll be directing a romantic comedy called Valentine's Day, due to go into production soon for release on February 14 2010. (What, you were expecting maybe a Halloween debut?) Cue hearts, flowers and large teddy bears at once!

The film's plot follows 10 people in Los Angeles whose lives intersect on Valentine's Day - so sort of Crash with more long-stem red roses, we're guessing. Given Marshall's form in the rom-com arena (Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries) we're seeing generally happier endings all around too.

The script was originally written by Katherine Fugate of The Prince & Me, er, fame, and has been given a polish by Never Been Kissed screenwriters Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, who also wrote He's Just Not That Into You, out later this week. In any case, the film is good news for lazy partners: at least you know what to take your honey to next February 14.
