Following an IMAX screening of two season four episodes a couple of days ago, HBO played a trailer for the next batch of episodes, due to hit in April. Naturally, it arrived online in slightly echoing, out-of-focus leaked fashion, but is now officially up for you to start hunting for clues as to where the next season will take the various characters.

As already announced, at least one plot line – Bran Stark and co. – won’t be in this season as the focus shifts to more of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), who along with Varys (Conleth Hill) has arrived in Pentos and start thinking about who they might support to take the Iron Throne: Varys is pointing Tyrion in the direction of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), who is busy trying to consolidate her rule.

Elsewhere, Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) are mourning their father, Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) is continuing to exert influence on Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Kit Harington’s Jon Snow continues his military campaign.

There are also quick glances at some of the new characters showing up this year, including Keisha Castle-Hughes’ Obara Sand and plenty of what we’ve come to expect from the show: clashes, cunning, casual nudity and some stylish cinematography. Game Of Thrones should be back on UK screens via Sky Atlantic on or around April 13. And in related Thrones news, George R.R. Martin’s publisher HarperCollins has warned the world not to expect the sixth book, The Winds Of Winter, this year. Keep on waiting...
