Aside from their creative use of thrifty budgets, sequel spawning ability and penchant for scaring lots of cash out of eager filmgoers, the trademark of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions is fast becoming a low, threatening rumble on the soundtrack. It’s present and correct in this first, colour-saturated teaser for The Gallows.
Developed by writer/directors Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff via work on YouTube, the film takes the form of a found-footage horror set in a high school.
Cassidy Gifford, Pfeifer Brown, Ryan Shoos, Reese Mishler and Alexis Schneider star in the story of students in a small town who plan a stage production aiming to honour the anniversary of a lead actor dying in the same play at the same location 20 years before. Somewhat naturally, this proves to be A Very Bad Idea, as the forces around the original incident aren’t ready for things to stay buried. Cue terror...
The teaser really does just tease, intending to make you wonder what the final film will deliver. The Gallows arrives in the States on July 10 and will make it over here on September 4. Nobody say Macbeth! It's bad lu... Oh, too late.
