Full True Grit Trailer Is Here

Well, that didn’t take long, now did it? With the True Grit teaser trailer whetting our appetite and the moody, effective poster following soon after, we suppose it was only a matter of time before the full trailer followed on. And here it is, courtesy of Yahoo, for your viewing pleasure.

While the teaser offered just a hint of the great stuff to come, this new full trailer really shows what the Coens have done with Charles Portis’ novel. This time around, we get a lot more of everyone, particularly Matt Damon’s LaBeouf (serving up some comic relief to leaven the tension) and Josh Brolin’s scowling, injured villain, Tom Chaney.

But the footage is owned, of course, by Jeff Bridges as the eye patch-sporting Marshal Reuben “Rooster” J Cogburn, a man quick to pull the trigger, who initially has little time for Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), who comes to him to ask for help in hunting down Chaney after he murders her father.

Steinfeld also looks to be a real find, blending Ross’ backbone with the vulnerability of a 14-year-old farm girl in a tough man’s world.

With a blistering Johnny Cash tune on the soundtrack, this does nothing to add to our anticipation for the movie. Because we were already at the maximum level of anticipation allowed by law...

True Grit arrives on Christmas Day across the pond and on January 14 here.
