Although a clearly-unfinished sales promo leaked out earlier in the year, the world is finally ready for the first proper trailer for the new Nicolas Cage / John Cusack thriller The Frozen Ground. Check out the footage courtesy of Yahoo.
Despite featuring two veterans from the Bruckheimer blockbuster factory in Con Air, The Frozen Ground looks to be a lot more along the lines of gritty indie drama thriller.
Based on real events, Frozen Ground tracks the tale of Robert Hansen (Cusack), who, though he appeared to be a stable and sensible citizen, abducted more than 12 women over a 24-year period and flew them to the Alaskan wilderness where he hunted and slaughtered them.
Cage is Jack Halcombe, the dogged State Trooper who caught the case and investigates Hansen, trying to bring him to justice. He gets help from Cindy Paulson (Vanessa Hudgens), a young prostitute who Hansen kidnapped, but who managed to escape his clutches.
There are a few warning signs here: the film has been sitting waiting for release since shooting in 2011 and the presence of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is rarely Your Guarantee Of Quality. But with the central pair matching wits, it could prove us wrong. The Frozen Ground is out here on July 19, ahead of its August 23 US release.
