While we’ve already had a couple of promos for Timur Bekmambetov’s history / myth mash-up Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, we haven’t had one that can show off the filmmaker’s commitment to hard Abe-on-vampire slaying action. That changes today with the arrival of an unrated trailer at IGN, which you can watch below. Bear in mind that it's full of blood-splattered action and could be considered NSFW. Especially if you work in Dracula's castle.
brightcove.createExperiences();Adapted by Seth Grahame-Smith from his novel, the movie tracks the president from his humble beginnings, weaving in a fictional tale of vampires impacting his life from the start. When a fanged fiend murders his mother, Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) swears revenge and, with a little help from friendly vamp Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper), trains himself in the difficult art of slaying them. Cue a succession of stabbings, beheadings, slicings, stakings and choppings.
It’s a good thing he pulls a Buffy, too, since the fang club is conspiring with slave owners to take over the fractured and less-than-united States, and only a few people can help.
This time around we finally get some proper footage of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who appears to be a proactive Mary Todd Lincoln, and a little more with Rufus Sewell’s villainous vamp Adam, who lures Abe into an ambush at one point.
From the looks of this, the movie is chock full of Bekmambetov’s usual flourishes and speed-shifts, plus plenty of bloody battles. We’ll see if it all works when the film arrives on June 20.
