Fool's Gold Premiere Report

“Maybe I’m gonna have to get something done. Maybe one day I’ll show up and people will say, ‘Wow Kate, look at those’.”

Kate Hudson there discussing the merits and pitfalls of having prominent areas of her anatomy Photoshopped and enlarged for her new movie’s promotional material – nobody it seems can be too perfect for those marketing types.

All debating about ‘false’ advertising aside, Hudson and her co-star Matthew McConaughey were on top form as they tripped into the Vue West End in London’s Leicester Square to celebrate the European Premiere of their new treasure hunting rom-com, Fool’s Gold.

The second time these two have starred together (following the successful Hot To Lose A Guy In 10 Days), it’s a tale about an estranged husband and wife who reluctantly get together again to track down a hidden fortune before getting the hots for each other all over again – a sort of Raiders Of the Lost Spark if you will.

Veteran romantic-comedy director Andy Tennant (Hitch, Sweet Home Alabama, Fool’s Rush In) is the man wielding the megaphone.

“Well, this is something a little bit more than just guys and girls talking about their problems,” he said referring to his previous output. “I thought, let’s have guys and girls having problems but running and jumping and crashing on boats and planes.”

So does this mean a move into more action-orientated fare for the helmer?

“I don’t know what it means, you just hope that it doesn’t mean that your movie is going to tank and then you think about what you’re going to do next.”

Talking about what’s next, McConaughey has landed a gig in what’s set to be the comedy of the year, Tropic Thunder.

“It’s gonna be a blast man,” he said. “Ben Stiller called and said he had this cool cameo role. I read it and laughed my ass off and then went down and shot a day in Hawaii and went back on set in LA for a couple of days – wait till you see Downey Jr, he’s a riot.”

McConaughey will be following that up with a comedy called Surfer Dude, which the actor enigmatically described as “absurdly earnest” - “It’s gonna be good man, it cracks me up. It’s got a real slight of hand and it’s really stony.”

Hudson in the meantime is set to work on a host of prestigious-sounding dramas (including the Margaret Keane biopic Big Eyes) and a couple of crowd-pleasing rom-coms. With such busy slates on both side then, will the two stars of Fool’s Gold be popping up on screen together again any time soon?

“We haven’t found the right thing but obviously we’re keeping an eye on it,” said McConaughey. “We’d love to work together again and again.”

Fool’s Gold is released nationwide on April 18.
