No Fletch For Zach Braff

It is truly a dark day for Fletch fans around the world this morning. After all the bumps and disappointments, after all the times when we thought the film would never get made, finally, it seemed, Fletch's luck was on the turn. Landing in the lap of Scrubs creator and certified genius BIll Lawrence, the film had finally found a loving had to nurture it into creation. What's more Lawrence had even enlisted his Scrubs star - and quite possibly the funniest man on television -, Zach Braff, to assume the title role.

But, in a cruel twist of fate, the Braffmeister has pulled out of the project, leaving Fletch Won without a Fletch. In a recent interview with TV Guide Lawrence told the magazine “"Zach is writing and directing his own film at Paramount. I'm very happy for him. We were looking forward to doing this thing together, but when you get an opportunity like that, you've got to take it."

So there you have it, our hopes dashed upon the rocks of fate like so many plywood rowboats. Thus, while Braff gears up for Open Hearts, Lawrence must cast about for another man to fill Irwin Fletcher’s myriad disguises. Back to the drawing board.
