First Trailer For Tom Hardy's Locke Slams In

Today is officially Unofficial International Tom Hardy Day. Not content with glowering in that handsome way of his at the BAFTAs last night, and signing up for a run at Peaky Blinders' post-Great War gangsterdom the day before, here he is again as the star turn in this new Locke trailer. Tomorrow he'll probably discover a new species of monkey, the big show-off.

Hardy's Ivan Locke is driving to London to be present at the birth of his child. Just a few complications: his wife (Ruth Wilson) is not the woman giving birth. His teenage sons (Tom Holland and Bill Milner) are at home, disappointed that he won't be home to see a football match. And the next day is due to see a key stage in a huge construction project that he's overseeing. So no pressure then. This first trailer is an effective mood piece, demonstrating what we already knew: Hardy has the charisma to hold the screen on his own without breaking sweat. Any sweat will be coming entirely from his stressed-out character.

Hardy will steer **Locke **into UK cinemas on April 18, with writer/director Steven Knight also behind the wheel.
