Last year’s Ride Along didn’t exactly establish itself in the annals of great buddy cop comedies, but it did manage to be a big hit with cinema audiences, thanks in part of the comic chemistry of Prime Grump Ice Cube and live-wire Kevin Hart. Naturally, a sequel was commissioned quickly and here’s the first trailer.
We catch up with tough cop James Payton (Cube) in the middle of a sting (which appears to be a silly nod to parent studio Universal’s **Fast & Furious **franchise) when he’s loudly, rudely and slapstickly (not a word, but we’re birthing it) interrupted by security guard-turned-rookie cop Ben Barber (Hart). From there it looks to be a lot of the same, as Ben makes James’ life a living hell by screwing up as they try to take down a crime baron in Miami, all the while preparing for his wedding to the gruff one’s sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter).
Along for the ride (along) this time are Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn and Benjamin Bratt, amongst others. Tim Story is back behind the camera, with a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who likewise worked on the original. Ride Along 2 is currently scheduled to hit our screens on January 22.
