After returning triumphantly to the big screen with 2011’s The Muppets (and to slightly less successful impact in last year’s Muppets Most Wanted), the felt friends are taking another crack at television. Thanks to US network ABC’s advertiser-enticing upfront presentation, we now have the first promo for the show.
It's time to get things started! [#TheMuppets](https://twitter.com/hashtag/TheMuppets?src=hash) are coming to ABC and this is your first look! > > — The Muppets ABC (@TheMuppetsABC) [May 12, 2015](https://twitter.com/TheMuppetsABC/status/598170850139963392)
Simply titled The Muppets, the series aims to offer a slightly more grown-up approach to the Muppets’ stories (not that Jim Henson’s creations haven’t told jokes that sail over kids’ heads for years), exploring their personal lives alongside their showbiz adventures. So expect more romantic tension between Kermit and Miss Piggy and a look at life in Los Angeles and elsewhere with a Modern Family/The Office-style mockumentary approach.
Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady (who got his start writing on The Jim Henson Hour) has worked with fellow sitcom veteran Bill Kushell to develop the new show, and it’ll feature a lot of the regular Muppet performers including Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz and Bill Barretta, who help Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and the rest come to life.
The last time the gang tried a TV series, we got the vaguely disappointing Muppets Tonight, which lasted two short seasons between 1996 and 1998. With luck, the new series will be worthy of more. It will premiere at 8pm on Tuesdays in the US, but there’s no word on when it will head here.
