A restless soul worried that his life isn’t all it could be. A quest to foreign lands to discover something new. A charismatic star to carry us on the journey. If this has you thinking about the recent Walter Mitty re-working, you’re not alone, but this is actually the basic concept for Peter Chelsom’s Hector And The Search For Happiness, which stars Simon Pegg and has now put its first trailer online via Collider.
Pegg is Hector, an eccentric yet irresistible London psychiatrist in crisis: his patients are just not getting any happier. He’s going nowhere. Then one day, armed with buckets of courage and an almost child-like curiosity, he breaks out of his sheltered vacuum of a life into a global quest to find out if happiness exists. More importantly, if it exists for Hector…
With Hector travelling to China, Africa, Canada and Los Angeles on his quest, the film also features Rosamund Pike as his girlfriend Clara, Christopher Plummer as a professor who specialises in Happiness Studies, and Toni Collette as Hector’s ex, who has settled into a new life in LA.
Stellan Skarsgard, Jean Reno and Jakob Davies are also part of the film, adapted from psychiatrist Francois Lelord’s novel by Chelsom, Tinker Lindsay and Maria von Heland. Hector And The Search For Happiness should be on our screens this autumn.
